Type Locality and Naming

Along Kattasay, Gobduntau Mountains. T.I. Khayrullina in 1981 (371, p. 32).

Lithology and Thickness

Feldspar-quartz sandstones, sometimes with admixtures of tuffogenic material, fine-grained greenish-gray, interbedded with siltstone (aleurolites) and clay-slate, argillite greenish-gray. Thickness 200-250m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

R.S. Khan et al. (486) suggest a conformable lower contact with the calcareous-slate Kalsarin Fm

Upper contact

upper - tectonic.

Regional extent

Gobduntau Mountains, basin of the Ingichka, Terek, Katta, Batyr rivers. It is correlated with the Badamchalin Fm of the Nurata Mountains.

Contains Ordovician chitinozoa - Desmochitina minor f. typica Eis., D. minor f. cocca Eis., Lagenochitina perparva Umn., Cyathochitina campanulaeformis Eis., etc.

Age

Previously, these terrigenous deposits were attributed to the Lower Silurian (Loskin et al., 1970); I.A. Pyanova et al. (371) - to the undifferentiated Ordovician.
